SPECIFICATIONS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE PROJECT
    11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Specifications are as important to the successful completion of a project as the design documents, however in many instances they are put together at the last minute as somewhat of an afterthought. The conversation in an office can sometimes be…… “Hey all, what are we forgetting?…..OH YEAH! The specifications…. Let’s use the same ones we had for the last project…..” This may sound flippant, however it's often true. Upon completion of this presentation, attendees will have a better understanding of the importance of specifications in the overall design and execution of construction projects.

    PRESENTER: TED KATSORIS, MORRISON HERSHFIELD

Ted Katsoris is a Principal and Department Manager at Morrison Hershfield with over 25 years of combined contracting and consulting experience. He has extensive experience in the field of building science and building envelope repair/rehabilitation, as well as contract administration. Formally trained in the field of building science and project management, Ted has undertaken a wide variety of projects ranging from building envelope repairs, mechanical upgrades, and asbestos removal to the redesign of large landscape areas. Ted is also an active instructor with Construction Specifications Canada, where he teaches night school courses to professionals involved in specification writing and administration of constructions s. When asked, he is also a guest instructor at Ryerson University.

PROCEDURES INVOLVED IN THE TENDERING OF A PROJECT
    1:30 P.m. - 2:30 p.m.

This seminar will address the various roles involved in tendering for a design project - from specification writer and general contractor roles to the more detailed elements involved in the bidding process, such as creating detailed specification documents and drawings, and the timelines, tasks and requirements involved in the bidding period - what that entails, and the work and events that will, hopefully, lead to the award of contract.
