American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)

The American Society of Interior Designers believes that design transforms lives. ASID serves the full range of the interior design profession and practice through the Society’s programs, networks, and advocacy. We thrive on the strength of cross-functional and interdisciplinary relationships among designers of all specialties, including workplace, healthcare, retail and hospitality, education, institutional, and residential. We lead interior designers in shared conversations around topics that matter: from evidence-based and humancentric design to social responsibility, well-being, and sustainability. We showcase the impact of design on the human experience and the value interior designers provide.

ASID was founded over 40 years ago when two organizations became one, but its legacy dates back to the early 1930s. As we celebrate nearly 85 years of industry leadership, we are leading the future of interior design, continuing to integrate the advantages of local connections with national reach, of small firms with big, and of the places we live with the places we work, play, and heal. About the Toronto Society of Architects

Established in 1887, the Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) is a non-profit volunteer-based organization comprised of architects, professionals from sister organizations such as planning, engineering, interior design and landscape architecture, and members of the public interested in architecture and urban issues. The TSA is the local Chapter of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), which is the licensing and regulatory body that governs the practice of architecture in Ontario.

The TSA plays an advocacy role in the city, ensuring that architecture and design are key considerations in public discussions and in processes that have an impact on our built environment. The TSA has effectively lobbied civic governments, participated in civic improvement roundtables, hosted public forums on current city planning issues, and initiated discourse on urban and architectural concerns in the city.

The TSA organizes a wide variety of initiatives including forums, exhibitions, tours, publications, competitions, and film series that engage the architectural profession, its sister disciplines, and the public. We strive to promote and advance the role of architecture and design in Toronto for the betterment of our city.

The National Floor Covering Association

The National Floor Covering Association is a not-for-profit trade association supporting contractors and manufacturers in the commercial floor covering sector.  NFCA promotes industry standards for resilient, carpet, hardwood, laminate, cork and bamboo floor covering installations by engaging those in the construction industry and building a robust community of like-minded professionals with a common purpose.

We also work with specifiers and design authorities to get the right language included in the construction documents that guide best practices for floor covering installations.

Flooring installation challenges as they exist today

  • Flooring contractors struggle to obtain acceptable site conditions that meet warranty requirements.
  • Manufacturers have to defend their product that is failing due to incorrect installation.
  • General contractors need to provide acceptable conditions on schedule.
  • Architects, designers and building owners are caught in the middle.

A view to the future

  • Increase chances of successful installations by raising quality of communications between the general contractor, architect, building owner and flooring contractor.
  • Through education and awareness campaigns, help individuals acquire the skills and certification needed to meet NFCA and manufacturer standards.
  • Build momentum by building membership and involvement throughout the community.

We encourage architects and designers to become affiliate members and part of a growing community of leaders for positive change.
