Remembering Gordon Forrest

Published by Patrick Voisin, April 11, 2018.

In early December of 2017, we lost Chione member Gordon Forrest at the age of 88. Forrest was a member since 1973 and co-founder of the firm Forrest, Bodrug, & Associates.

Hania Hawrylak, former colleague and associate, had this to say about Forrest: “He was dedicated to promoting our industry as professionals, contributing to the Canadian economy and the improvement of our work and living spaces. He was instrumental in strengthening and defining the direction of the Eastern Ontario Chapter of ARIDO and supported all staff across Canada to actively engage in their associations.

When our industry was challenged to the right to work on federal government projects, he was immediately in the Minister's office successfully fighting for our livelihood.

He promoted excellence of design as witnessed by the numerous ARIDO awards and the many years that the firm was in the Top 100 design firms in North America.

He understood the need to express creativity balanced with business acumen and this made him very successful in communicating innovative concepts to clients.

He was always available to suggest ways to solve problems or fly in to help, he rewarded us based on merit and our ability to stand up and be recognized. He fostered a family team approach amongst his partners and staff.”

Forrest’s project and client list includes: Expo 67, embassies, "the Hill", federal departments and agencies, solicitors, accountants, oil and mining companies, hotels, restaurants, stores, and airports; or as Hawrylak says, “you name the project, he was on the list.”
